Latest Updates from Our Project:

13 Hours to Go, Writer’s Bonus, and 5E Adventure Unlocked
over 4 years ago – Wed, Aug 07, 2019 at 11:24:08 PM

Morning all!

We’ve got about 13 hours to go on the campaign. Thank you everyone for joining us!

We have lept beyond the stretch goal for a 5e adventure to go along with the bestiary! This is an adventure that I’ll be writing, yes, that’s right, master of Kickstarter and adventures Josh Heath. I’m excited and hope we get to the Pathfinder adventure goal too so I can put another cool story together!

We are also going to give our writers a bonus for having passed the $6500 mark. We are very proud of their work on this.

That’s all for this update, hope to see you all again when we steam beyond the Pathfinder adventure goal.

Poll, Last 36 Hours, and 205 Backers!
over 4 years ago – Tue, Aug 06, 2019 at 10:38:31 PM

 Hello!

Yesterday we roared through the last extra monster we are adding to the project! Today I'd like to ask you to choose in the comments which one we are going to do! You might be familiar with all of these, since they are the runners up to the previous polls, but I wanted to give them each a shot to make it in the book.

We are in the last 36 hours of this Kickstarter and we've pushed past 205 backers. At this point is the right time to review your pledge, ensure that it is at the level you want it to be, and that you are helping us bring this awesome project to fruition!

One of our backend goals was 200 backers, and I think we can get higher than that if you help us! Share with your friends, colleagues, or even people you meet on the street!

Shagamaw

Tadarida Mephitidae

Pronunciation:

Family: Chimerical Mammal/Mammal (natural)

Sapience: non-sapient

Manifestation: Corporeal

A shagamaw is a half-bear/half-moose hybrid that lives in the northern realms of Thunderbird province. It has the head, and forepaws of a bear with moose antlers and a body that changes from bear to moose ending in moose legs and tail.

Shagamaws are cagey and highly intelligent despite being classified as non-sapient. They will observe mundane and magical hunters and will employ clever tricks to try to outwit them.  One of their more clever tricks is to walk on their hind legs for some time and then walk on their forelegs for a while. This confuses the hunters as they are not certain if they are tracking a moose or a bear.

Jackalantan

Lumina spiritus

Pronunciation:

Family: Spirit

Sapience: Non-sapient

Manifestation: Spectral

Jackalantan are glowing spots of light without a corporeal form. They have a sort of otherworldly presence where they exist physically. Because they are non-corporeal on our plane of reality, they can pass through physical materials. If examined closely, they appear as grotesque, glowing faces.

In would be incorrect to say that they are beings of pure energy. They have a physical form, just not in our reality. Their form exerts a sort of inter-planal bioluminescence that shines in our realm. This light is purely magical and is usually only visible to mages, but can sometimes be seen by mundanes as well.

A jackalantan uses its light to lure the unwary to locations unknown. People lured away by the jackalanten are never seen again, mages and mundane alike. It is believed that jackalantan lure people to their otherworldly realm, but that has never been proven. Once someone is taken by a jackalantan, they do not report back, and all attempts to communicate with them or scry them fail.

Piasa

Manticorus inimicus

Pronunciation:

Family: Chimerical Mammal/Reptilian (natural)

Sapience: Sapient

Manifestation: Corporeal

Piasas were a species of manticore (human-horse-bat-scorpion chimerae) native to the central plains area of North America. It is believed they left this plane of existence in the mid-1200s, wiped out by the Mississippian culture civilization.

Our Amazing Developers Behind This Project
over 4 years ago – Tue, Aug 06, 2019 at 11:17:30 AM

Let's hear it for our development team!

If you're wondering how we got 55+ amazing creatures that have just the right combination of skills, attributes, special attacks, and defenses, the answer is: decades of experience playing and GMing in Pathfinder and D&D. We had an amazing team of 5th Edition and Pathfinder players and GMs work on developing creatures for each bestiary.

So. Many. Conversations about which powers to use to make the beasts interesting, playable, and neither under- or over-powered. We've worked hard to ensure there are cool creatures at all CR levels, and a great representation among the various terrains and ecosystems. I think you'll be excited by the creative ways our team has brought these creatures to life with super unique combinations of abilities and skills to challenge and surprise adventuring parties.

We actually had to have the "who would win in a fight" conversation multiple times. The answer is not Batman.

Shout-out to the Pathfinder team:

  • David Neubauer (team lead, development coordinator)
  • Daniel Abraham
  • Marquis Maddox
  • Eric Schiller
  • Caleb Brannan
  • Austin Shepherd
  • Ben Morrow

Our incredible D&D 5th Edition developers:

  • hJason Arne
  • Sharang Biswas
  • W. Ryan Carden
  • Clio Yun-Su Davis
  • Elizabeth DeLyser
  • Brandon Hare

We also had editorial and project management amazement from:

  • Tara M. Clapper
  • Shayna Cook
  • Lee Parmenter
  • Anna Yardney

Thanks also to our awesome play testers, who provided us with great feedback about where attributes were under or overpowered, performed strangely, or ate entire parties.

If you're getting this bestiary, you're getting the culmination of more than three years of work by an incredible team of folks.

So, let's hear it for the team, who are also super excited to see this book get out into the world!

Paper Upgrade!
over 4 years ago – Mon, Aug 05, 2019 at 09:25:20 AM

Magical wand wavers!

We've upgraded the paper options in the books! Considering the quality of the art I think you'll really appreciate that addition and I look forward to tackling our next stretch goal together!

I got together with some of the team while I was at GenCon, and we are all super excited to see this book leap from furrowed brows and become reality. We believe that the Magimundi offers something compelling and engaging, and this Bestiary is a great entryway into our world.

Thanks for coming along the journey with us!
